Colour removal
Here, TIGI Colour Expert Emil McMahon answers a frequently asked question on TIGI Colour!
Q. What method should be used to remove old colour from clients’ hair to help achieve a target shade?
A. TIGI Colour offers a selection of ‘recipes’ created to help achieve the optimum results, which we explain below.
Firstly though, when dealing with old colour, it is necessary to take into consideration the following elements, before commencing the process:
Hair condition
Texture and Porosity
Target Shade – is it realistically achievable?
Chemical History
How many lifts are required to achieve the perfect base for the target shade
The time factor. (This is usually significantly longer than a normal colour process.)
The cost of the service. (This needs to be built into the price structure, taking the time into consideration.)
The maintenance programme for home after-care. (A recommendation of the correct haircare products will prolong the colour and keep the hair healthy.)
Remember that most colour removal techniques create a warm undercoat. Factor this in when choosing the target shade.
All these elements need to be discussed with the client. Then you can ‘remove’ the old colour to create the correct undercoat for the target shade. (If there are any doubts, always do a strand test.)
