Education, education, education! That was a political slogan used a few years ago. What a shame nothing more was made of it, because without education there is no sense of being valued. Education is a life-long process; it doesn’t begin or end in school!

It’s every employer’s duty to recognise the talent of new staff and support their development and growth. It pays off – thriving businesses all include staff education as a major contributor to their success. In hairdressing, education for junior staff members is the key to building their all-round skills and abilities. With the acquisition of knowledge comes confidence and competence.

Education in business provides greater career opportunities and higher levels of personal success. It is the platform for professional development. Juniors are able to build on their skills and transfer their knowledge to the client. This in turn allows them to not only practice what they have learned, but also clarify anything through good communication.

The learning that education brings moves everything forward. Juniors are taught to observe, reflect and make judgments on images and trends seen in everyday life or in the media. Established staff, there to support and help young talent grow, can also feel motivated by trainees bringing in new views and ideas. And when team members are selected for training, they feel valued and enthused. There is a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment that’s the foundation for great morale – and all this contributes to the success of the salon!
