Advertorials
– adverts made to look like an editorial.  In short, paid for editorial.  Tends to cost slightly more than an advert as the publication will often write it to appear like an 'article' themselves, so that it fits in with their style.

Competition – a promotion that runs in the media offering the reader/viewer/listener the opportunity to win a prize e.g. makeover with a winner and a friend worth £500. No direct costs – space is provided in exchange for the services you will provide at the salon.

Editorial – the words written in a magazine by a journalist/writer that are not paid for.

Press pack – a collection of materials which could include a press release, salon/staff profiles and a photographic collection CD that is given to the press

Press release – a summary sheet of information sent out to the press providing details on a particular news story (e.g. award win, salon launch party etc.) which journalists will then use to write about if they perceive it to be newsworthy.

Reader offers - an offer provided to readers e.g. 10% OFF, 20% OFF a colour, free treatment etc.
