Attitude test
You choose your attitude. You can decide to smile and be pleasant or you can choose to be awkward and grumpy. In our profession working with people, it is vital to have a good attitude and being caring, friendly and helpful. This in turn helps us to have a better day by having positive communications with the customers we meet.
Customers and colleagues can tell what kind of attitude you are displaying within three to seven seconds of seeing you, even before you have spoken.
We communicate this:
Visually – by how we are dressed, facial expressions, how we are standing and our body language.
Verbally – not so much what we say, but more the way we say it.
ACTION – try this out with one of your colleagues:
Ask him/her to close their eyes and then explain you are going to say a short sentence twice.
The first time you say the sentence do NOT smile while saying the words.
Now repeat the sentence, but say it WITH a smile on your face.
Ask your colleague if it sounds different.
Finally, ask your colleague to tell you what the first sentence sounded like. You may hear words like harsh and aggressive.
Then ask how the second sentence sounded. You should hear words like – softer, friendly.
WHY? When you smile, your voice lifts about two octaves whether you like it or not. This makes you sound friendlier – it’s as easy as that!
IT’S UP TO YOU!
Before you start work check that you not only look the part and reflect
the salon brand image, BUT that you have chosen the Right Attitude.
Start by thinking to your self “How can I help?” or “How can I make a
difference? By having this positive attitude chances are you will have
a better day!
FACT: 68 per cent of customers will leave any business because of the
attitude of ONE person dealing with ONE customer on any ONE day!
